Quest Stage 2
OK you are probably wondering what happens now you’ve played through Demo G19’s 20 free Turns and are ready to transfer over to proper G20. First off you’ll need money in your account for this bit though there are plenty of payment options. You could go for the cheapest at £2 for 10 turns then rely upon the generously provided free-play times forever more. But I do suggest going for the £10 for 1 weeks play to really discover what the game is about. Playing as much or as little as you want during this time. You’ll get chance to recruit even the rarest of sub-classes and make serious headway in their stat training and equipping too.
You also have the option of joining an Alliance that can offer gold, + items, Kharnographer maps, advice and company to share the many highs and lows the old game has to offer! The monsters here can be fiendishly cruel indeed. Quest Unlimited G20 is especially generous in terms of loot with stronger foes in larger forces. Of course the same applies to slower paced G31 and G33 though don’t expect the level of gold that insta-Turn-around G20 provides.
Now it is time to recruit the Fighter sub-classes like Footmen, Gladiators and Berserkers who weren’t available in the Demo world. And thanks to your trusty Thief and Novala Priests you’ll have plenty of gold for amazing 2002 gold characters. Or recruiting any new Priests and Mages should you require them. Though I would delay a moment and try for a Thief – Scout subclass first as their monster spotting ability is second to none. And will make the difference between a quiet map and a busy one. A Halfblood Scout will often start with 50+ skill and high AW and TO/Health thanks to Racial bonuses.
For 2002 gold stats will be at least average to excellent. You will be offered 5 of the Race/general Class requested every time so can cherry-pick the best or try again next Turn waiting for better stats or the sub-class you really want. Some can be quite rare while others show up all the time. But with 1 week of Turns you’ve plenty of time. Be sure to read the rules on where different sub-classes can be recruited too and their other strict rules. Cities are 1-20, Towns 21 to 60 and Villages 61 to 140.
Aim for at least 40 skill or even 50 on some Race/Class combinations. And give/buy them a weapon on the turn you accept them as they’ll get some free skill with it. Fighters get their prime skill so definitely worth it on them. Other Classes just get a few points though still worthwhile.
For warlike aggressive setups looking to experience all aspects of the game aim for something like this:
7-9 Fighters.
2-3 Priests.
2-3 Mages.
1 Thief.
1 Scout.
Missile is fine for lesser monsters but if you dream about taking on the more thick-skinned kind like Dragons and Giants then your focus should be on the melee specialists. While they may be slower to enter combat their damage and effectiveness will be much better at grinding the enemy down.
I'll add more info over the coming week or 2.
