Ilkor: Dark Rising
#21
Just sent in Turn 7 for Iraklis today.

Seems my messenger job down to Northgate and back was a test to see if I was worthy for a holy life in the Temple.  Holy what I don't know, holy messenger, odd job man?  Hmmmmm, a 1 day check up, then a month plus of training inside the temple.  Seems a bit restrictive so I'm going to take a pass on it.  I would be fine with just running messages to where ever, but they seem to be looking for more.

So instead it's off to the docks to see if the other job I've been offered is still on.

BUT the dice roll veer off course and a drunk bumps into me and spills his beer all over me and OF COURSE it must be my fault.  So Bar Fight! or Not?

Wait and see mode engaged.

After speaking with a kindly old Priest perhaps that deidicated life is not for me as it does not seem to fit in with a wandering adventurers life. Leaving me with much to consider as i'd thought my path set in stone.

A local Herbalsit has asked for help in gathering local plants and preparing them. News abounds of the wilds being dangerous so i'm hoping not to have to go alone.

Worst of all the streets are abuzz with news of murder! By a fellow Priest no less. Surely this cannot be so? Were we not trained to Heal not to hack?

Nearly missed Turn as it went to spam and i rarely check. Eventually spotted if nearly 2 weeks late. Did discover Turn is also on the games website in private Vault section. Thought things were taking a while but just figured thats how the game is.

This is getting exciting! After leaving the city and heading for a nearby village to deliver a temple message and gather local herbs an aggressive Brown Bear blocks our way. Fortunately I am not alone having hastily caught up with Cyvyth the Elf and 2 other adventurers. We are hoping flaming torches will be enough to at least drive it off.

Something that I like is unlike an mmo where everyone can take the same quest, Ilkor seems to be a 'living' game.  A job will come up and if you don't take it, someone else might and you're just out of luck when you return to the 'quest giver'.

Now it looks like there's a few basic 'quests' that are for all; messenger, kill wild animals etc..., but most are one off's.

I did my messenger job, went to do the other job I'd been offered as a bodyguard on a ship trip and found the ship had already sailed with someone else having taken the job.

Something I'll keep in mind for the future; if a job sounds good, take it cuz it might not still be there when you go back.

The Bear could not be scared off as we'd hoped but fought aggressively to the death as if posssesed by some evil spirit. Severely injuring Karaston and Avoreen (both fine Elven Fighters) who bravely took the brunt of the enraged beasts many attacks. They were close to death as the enemy finally fell. With the aid of Cyvyth the Elven Mage we were able to tend to the wounded barely enough to push on to the safety of Bordon village where a master Healer resides. My mind races with worry that there could be many more unnaturally violent animals here just waiting to slaughter any unwary travellers.

For some odd reason this quote came to mind though i've twisted/butchered it a little to better fit the situation. Or perhaps i've just seen the film too many times???
'This Brown Bear interests me. Not your standard Bear, is it? More alert. Purposeful looking. You should have taught it not to meddle.'

Well life's not going well for the game right now.  The GM's had covid twice and where he's located at is having a lot of power issues with black out's and such.

Never a good thing for a game's health, but he's been able to get updates out to the players and he has a plan to try and get things back up and running.

My guess is he'll lose maybe 10% (the newer players with just a couple of turns in) that aren't invested in the game, but since he's GMing solo that might not be a bad thing since I did talk about him getting snowed under if too many joined the game in my first post.

We're probably looking at March for the game to get back to a steady pace (his estimate).
